The kindness of strangers on the northbound road through Mississippi

Louisianians fleeing Hurricane Gustav on Interstate 55 Sunday night encountered the kindness of strangers. Hanging from an overpass crossing the northbound lanes several miles inside Mississippi was a blanket spray-painted with the words, "God Bless and Good Luck."

And several citizenry calling into Jackson, Miss., radio station US 96.3 Sunday night offered directions to their w. C. Fields and pastures, with an invitation for evacuees to camp and park RVs on the property.

That was not needfully the tolerant of help all drivers wanted. Around 9 p.m. Sunday, a woman from Metairie pulled into a gaseous state station just off I-55 in Crystal Springs, Miss. She was part of a five-vehicle convoy that included her husband, trey children and mother-in-law.

"This would be a lot easier," she said of the evacuation, "if you could drink and drive."

Barry Adamson's work as a bassist for Magazine and Nick Cave's Bad Seeds gave little indicant of the complex, cinematic works he has composed as a solo creative person. After going the Bad Seeds in 1987, Adamson decided to surveil the course of moving picture composers like John Barry, Ennio Morricone, and Bernard Herrmann, whose work had intrigued him since puerility. His first full-length album, 1989's Moss Side Story (he had released one previous EP in 1988), was a plow de force, blending post-punk, industrial, spy guitar, and various hellenic impression composer quotes into a unlined 54-minute soundtrack to an sinister film noir that didn't live. This transcription light-emitting diode to Adamson's go on soundtracks for literal films in the early '90s, including Hallucination, Throttle Food Lodging, and Shuttle Cock. Adamson too continued to draw up quasi-cinematic recordings for imaginary films like 1996's Oedipus Schmoedipus, although none have matched the sustained excitation of Moss Side Story. As Above, So Below followed in 1998 and a best-of compiling titled The Murky World of Barry Adamson appeared a year after that. Adamson returned in 2002 with The King of Nothing Hill, his beginning collection of modern material in quatern old age. Stranger on the Sofa followed in 2006, Adamson's beginning for his Central Control International impression.

Hailing from southern California's prolific metalcore conniption of the 2000s, Sinai Beach's initial entranceway into the suppression frazzle was their album When Breath Escapes, issued in March 2003 via Facedown. The guys -- vocalizer CJ Alderson, drummer Mike Dunlap, guitarists Logan Lambert and Mike Risinger, and bassist Jeff Santo -- toured heavily for the next two old age in support of the record, playing shows in both North America and Europe, and hooking up with bands like Bleeding Through, Throwdown, and Norma Jean along the way. They at long last caught the attention of Victory Records, which sign-language Sinai Beach up in early 2005. Working with producer Eric Rachel (Atreyu, Dillinger Escape Plan), the band recorded its irregular full-length, Immersed -- which was released that April and exemplified the gang's passion of groups like Pantera, Danzig, Hatebreed, and Slayer. Directly next Immersed's release, Risinger proclaimed his resignation, and Sean Durham filled his shoes on guitar; bassist Santo was later swapped out for Daniel Barachkov as advantageously. When Breath Escapes was reissued with young cover artistic creation in the spring of 2006 by Victory, as the band readied material for its third album.

Jamie Foxx and stylist settle lawsuit over fees

LOS ANGELES —

Her lawsuit claimed that she was never paid for the work or her costs.

Foxx's attorneys denied the claims, saying Universal Studios, not Foxx, hired Young for the "Miami Vice" work.

Diamond finds "Home" field advantage with Rubin

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Neil Diamond doesn't mess with success.

That's why he "never doubted" he'd work again with producer Rick Rubin, who steered their 2005 collaboration, "12 Songs," to a No. 4 debut on the Billboard 200, Diamond's best since "The Jazz Singer" in 1982. The album has sold 571,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Diamond, 67, says he and Rubin began working on "Home Before Dark," due May 6 via Columbia, "within weeks after '12 Songs' was finished. All of those questions you have when you work with somebody new were yesterday's news. We knew what we wanted to do."

So after "14 or 15 months" of writing, Diamond hit the studio with Rubin and an improvisational-leaning band featuring guitarists Mike Campbell, Matt Sweeney and Smokey Hormel and keyboardist Benmont Tench. Dixie Chicks vocalist Natalie Maines chipped in on "Another Day (That Time Forgot)," Diamond's first major duet with a female singer since "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" with Barbra Streisand in 1978.

As with "12 Songs," the material on "Home Before Dark" is drumless, with Diamond's still-commanding voice front and center and his rhythm guitar, which he hadn't played in the studio for three decades, guiding the way for the other instrumentalists. On "Whose Hands Are These" and the title track, Diamond hammered out the final arrangements (with Tench and Sweeney, respectively) after the regular session was over for the day.

"Working with these guys, and having Rick's ear, made it a great deal of fun," Diamond says. "Of course, I had to have the enthusiasm of the band, and their consent, in a way. When I played them a new song, I wanted them to love it and feel where they belonged in it. I was lucky enough to receive that on all of these songs. They'd be playing along and looking for their places even before I'd finish the first run-through. It was magic, in a way."

Diamond's summer tour starts May 24 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and touches down in North America on July 19 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Included in the itinerary is an August 23 date at Boston's Fenway Park, which Diamond announced with a surprise video appearance on the scoreboard during an April 8 Red Sox game.

"I always like to include songs I haven't done in the show in a while," he says, declining to reveal specifics but promising that material from "12 Songs" and "Home Before Dark" will be on the set lists.
